Riah phiyega salary comparison

It has been almost a year since police commissioner Riah Phiyega was suspended on full pay, which could amount to R1.6-million rand per annum.

Yesterday she expressed frustration at the slow pace of the board of inquiry probing her fitness to hold office.

The Claassen Board of Inquiry has missed its August deadline to submit its final report to President Jacob Zuma, blaming the delay on board chairman Neels Claassen's poor health.

The board concluded hearings on June 3 and started pondering Phiyega's fate but Advocate Liza Tsatsi, the board's secretary, said the board hit a snag when Claassen was booked off sick for six weeks.

"This affected the whole process. The judge is back and working on the report but doctors have advised him to take it easy," she said.

Tsatsi said the board was aware of the urgency of the report, saying Phiyega was also anxious to know her fate.
